If the 2020 3A State Tournament had not been canceled due to the pandemic, the Douglas girls probably would be 4-time state champions in the last four years, instead of 3. The Bearcats made up for that unfortunate missed opportunity by running the table in 2020-21 and won another coveted state title.

It certainly helps that Douglas had a four-time all-state selection in 6-4 Allyson Fertig. The 6-4, University of Wyoming signee averaged an astounding 22 points and 13 rebounds per game. Both of those marks led 3A and her season-high, scoring-wise was 39 against Buffalo. Joslin Igo is a two-time all-state pick and she threw in 11 points with 8 rebounds per game. Kamdynn Townsend, who is a sensational all-around athlete is a two-time all-state pick as well. She averaged 12 points a game and Allison Olsen made all-state, throwing in 11 points per game.

Douglas started state tournament play in Casper with a 72-26 win over Mountain View in the quarterfinal round. The Cats outscored the Buffs 25-6 in the 1st quarter and 34-3 in the 2nd quarter. Olsen led the way with 19 points, Fertig chipped in 18, Igo had 15 and Townsend had 14. That says it all.

In the semi-final round, Douglas knocked off Lander 74-35 as they won all four quarters with Allyson Fertig throwing in 33 points with 13 rebounds. She was an amazing 15-18 from the field but did receive some help as Olsen had 17 and Townsend contributed 13. The Cats met Lyman in the 3A championship game and turned in another dominating performance with a 51-11 win. Fertig had 16 on 7-10 from the floor with Townsend and Chloe Collins adding 9 each.

This team was the best in the state regardless of classification and their window to win was wide open in 2021. Next season, the scenario changes with several key players graduating. Namely, Fertig, Igo, and Townsend. Olsen and Collins return but it will be a whole new world for the Bearcats in 2021-22. Take a look at our short video from the state tournament. Enjoy!
