The Lander wrestling team went 1-2 in the Ron Thon Duals over the weekend in Riverton with a win over Riverton and losses to Powell and Natrona. The Tigers do have a sensational wrestler in Jack Sweeney who was the 3A state champion at 170 pounds in 2020. Sweeney reached the top of the podium with a first period pin of Bo Dearcorn of Powell to finish the season 44-3. This season, Sweeney has bumped up to 182 pounds and has been equally effective. His technique is sound and has a plan when he gets on the mat. Sweeney is a solid all-around athlete as he been a two-time all-state selection at defensive back in football for the Tigers.

Lander does have some quality guys at other weights like sophomore Charles Synder at 132 pounds, junior Paxton Rees at 138 along with heavyweight Cody Cunningham. Last year as a freshman, Cunningham qualified for the state meet going 0-2 but the experience was valuable.

The 2021 state meet is coming up soon so guys across the state need to be ready and we talked with Sweeney and Cunningham about their seasons to date.
