PhotoFest! Pine Bluffs Wins Rugged 1A 9-Man Football Title Game
A pair of very good football teams from the southeast part of the state met in Laramie on Saturday afternoon as Pine Bluffs took on Lingle-Fort Laramie for the 1A 9-Man championship. Lingle-Fort Laramie beat Pine Bluffs 30-27 during the regular season and it was another close game at War Memorial Stadium over the weekend.
After a scoreless 1st quarter, Pine Bluffs found the end zone on a 35-yard run by Ryan Mohren to give the Hornets a 6-0 lead. PB quarterback Carsten Freeburg has enjoyed a solid season and continued his great play in the title game with a pair of touchdown runs in the 2nd quarter; one from 38 yards out and the other from 11. The Hornets took a 21-0 into the locker room at halftime.
Lingle-Fort Laramie jumped back into the game with a 1-yard TD run from Louden Bremer to cut the lead to 21-7. The Doggers had a very productive 4th quarter as Kaiden Riggs caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Brady Cook and Cook threw a 36-yard TD strike to Brody Roberts with 2:28 to play. LFL certainly made it interesting, now trailing 28-22.
Pine Bluffs ground out a first down on their next possession to ice the game and finish the season 10-1. The Hornets ran the ball to the tune of 276 yards and 147 of them were picked up by Carston Freeburg. The Hornets won their 2nd State Championship in 3 years and have lost just 5 games over the course of 4 seasons.
