The Class 2A girls' basketball state championship concludes on Saturday with five games in Casper.

WyoPreps is doing brief summaries of the games throughout the second day of the action at Natrona County High School and the Ford Wyoming Center.

Note, the championship game will be covered in a separate story.

Game 12: Sundance 46 Lusk 41 (3rd place game)

Sundance beat Lusk to claim 3rd place in the 2A state basketball tournament.

The Sundance Bulldogs had control of a majority of the game. There were only two lead changes the entire game. The Bulldog's biggest lead over the Tigers was nine points.

The Bulldogs shot 37.2% from the field. The Lusk Tigers shot 27.9% from the field in the loss. Sundance won the rebounding battle 41-28.

Sundance had three players score in double digits. Cana McInerney scored 11 points and had eight total rebounds. Bailey Hofland had 10 points with seven total rebounds. Nevada Gill had 10 points.

Courtney Rowley was the leading scorer for Lusk with 13 points and added six rebounds in the loss.

Game 10: Pine Bluffs 43 Big Piney 42 (Consolation Championship)

The Pine Bluffs Hornet won a close one against the Big Piney Punchers on Saturday evening.

There were only three lead changes in the game and the final possession was the closest the game was.

The Hornets shot 39.1% from the field while the Punchers shot 37.8% from the field. Pine Bluffs won the rebounding battle by a strong margin of 44-26.

Pine Bluffs scored 21 points from 2nd chance buckets.

Shelby Thurin was the leading scorer for Pine Bluffs with 14 points. Thurin was also able to grab eight total rebounds in the game.

The leading scorer for Big Piney was Cassidy Espenscheid with 16 points in the loss.

Game 8: Pine Bluffs 53 Shoshoni 51

The Pine Bluffs Hornets held on late against the Shoshoni Lady Blue to advance to the consolation trophy game which will be played on Saturday afternoon.

Pine Bluffs held strong for a majority of the game. The Hornets held the lead the entire game despite being outscored 20-12 in the fourth quarter.

Shoshoni made a late push in the fourth quarter but ultimately fell short by a missed free-throw with under five seconds left in the game.

Pine Bluffs shot 39.2% from the field and was able to hit eight 3-pointers in the game. The Hornets also outrebounded the Lady Blue 38-32

The Hornets had four players score in double digits. Maegan Madden was the leading scorer of the team with 13 points. Madden was able to hit three 3-pointers in the game and also added four rebounds.

Cheyenne Thompson was the leading scorer for Shoshoni with 12 points in the loss.

Pine Bluffs moves on to play in the consolation trophy game against Big Piney at 3:30 p.m.

Shoshoni's season is over.

Game 9: Big Piney 63 Moorcroft 59 

The Big Piney Punchers beat the Moorcroft Wolves in double overtime to advance to the consolation trophy game.

There was a total of five lead changes in the game. The Wolves led for a majority of this game until the end of it. Moorcroft even held a 13 point lead at one point in this game.

Big Piney was able to outscore Moorcroft 22-10 in the fourth quarter. The teams were tied 47-47 at the end of the fourth. Then they were tied 55-55 at the end of the first overtime and eventually, Big Piney was able to gain control and win the game in the second overtime.

Cassidy Espenscheid was the leader for Big Piney. Espenscheid put together a double-double in the game. She scored 21 points and added 10 total rebounds in the win.

Big Piney was able to outrebound Moorcroft 54-39 and went 28 for 45 on free-throw shots.

Moorcroft was led by Talissa Fischbach who scored 21 points in the game. Fischbach was able to hit six 3-pointers in the loss.

Big Piney will play Pine Bluffs for the Consolation Trophy at 3:30 p.m.

Moorcroft's season is over.
