The marquee game in the 3A girls ranks featured #3 Newcastle traveling to play #1 Douglas on Friday night. Newcastle came to play and this is a solid team. They move the ball well on offense and can attack the rim from the paint. The Dogies let Douglas know early that this was going to be a supreme battle and it was. Down the stretch, Newcastle held off a Bearcat run to win that one 55-50. Hunter McFarland led the way for Newcastle with 20 points and Shelby Tidyman chipped in 12. Douglas was led by Alli Olsen 22 and Lauren Olsen adding 16. This was the first loss for Douglas in 3A girls' play since in the 2017 State Tournament. The Cats are now 13-2 on the year.

Newcastle was a state tournament qualifier last season and this team is poised to take the next step.  They have balance and talent so they're going to be tight in the thick of the 3A race. The Dogies also beat Wheatland over the weekend so they're 10-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

We do have some video of that game on Friday as well as a few photos in our gallery. Enjoy!
