The Wheatland Lobos Are The WyoPreps Athletes of the Week 7-9-25 [VIDEO]

The latest WyoPreps Athletes of the Week honor was bestowed upon the Wheatland Lobos American Legion Baseball team. The Lobos won the Bolln Wood Bat Tournament in Douglas last weekend with an undefeated record. Centerfielder and pitcher Frank Peralta represented Wheatland after his outstanding weekend on the diamond.

WYOPREPS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK WINNER 7-9-25

Wheatland went 4-0 in their four tournament games. They won both of their pool play games by coming from behind. The Lobos got past Powell, 4-2, and then edged Evanston in 8 innings, 3-2. That placed Wheatland into one of the semifinal games last Sunday. They jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and topped Lovell, 7-1, to advance to the tournament championship game. The Lobos brought home the title with a 7-5 victory over Powell. Wheatland scored its runs in the first two innings and held off the Pioneers’ rally. They have won seven in a row and are 28-15 on the season.

Peralta had a .454 batting average last weekend. He had five hits, which included one home run and one double, and six RBIs. Peralta scored four times, drew three walks, and struck out only once. He was also the winning pitcher against Powell in the first game of the tournament. Peralta tossed no-hit ball over five innings and allowed one unearned run with 11 strikeouts.

WyoPreps visited with Frank Peralta on Tuesday to get his reaction to the big weekend for Wheatland. He discussed how the Lobos performed in the Bolln Tournament, how they fought back in a couple of games, played nearly clean defense, described the team chemistry, his play, his preference for pitching and playing in center field, and more.
