Campbell County sprinter Branden Werkele has signed on with Chadron State in Nebraska to continue his track and field career. Werkele had a solid 4A State Meet for the outdoor season as he took 2nd in the 200-meter dash in 23.23 and 3rd in the 100 in 11.41. His 4x100 meter relay team placed 3rd at State and so did his 4x400 relay squad. Werkele was named all-state for his efforts in the 2021 outdoor season as a junior.

He was equally effective in the 2021 indoor season as he placed 2nd in the 200 meters at the State Meet in 22.65 and 3rd in the 55-meter dash in 6.62.  His 4x200 meter team won the indoor state championship in 1.32.43 and his 4x400 meter relay team placed 4th.

At the 2020 state indoor track meet, Werkele placed 9th in the 200 and his 4x200 relay group took 5th.  Chadron State is a Division II school that competes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference
