The last time the Douglas girls did not win the 3A State Championship in basketball was in 2017. Albeit, the 3A tournament was canceled in 2020 due to COVID but there was a high probability that the Bearcats would have won the title that year too.

This team will have a different complexion than a year ago but they do have super-scorer Lauren Olsen who made all-state a year ago as a freshman. She is one of the state's most dynamic players in the state and can do it all. She is joined by Brooke Wright who was an all-conference pick last season so there's talent on the Douglas roster......again.

The Cats opened up the season at the Burns tournament and beat Pine Bluffs, 61-8, Southeast 56-33, and Moorcroft 70-36. That should serve as notice to the rest of 3A that Douglas will contend for a state championship this season. We had a chance to chat with Olsen and Wright after their win over Southeast on Friday and it's been so far so good. Be sure and take a look at some images of that game in our gallery below.
