Cody Girls Basketball Team Posts Best Finish at State Tourney

The Cody Fillies had their best run through the 4A Girls State Basketball Tournament since finishing 3rd way back in 1996. Cody was the #3 seed from the West at the state tournament and drew Thunder Basin, the 2nd seed from the East in the first round. In what was a very entertaining game, Cody prevailed 59-56. There was a combined 44 points scored in the 4th quarter with the Fillies shooting 39% from the floor for the game. Torrie Schutzmann went 5-11 from the field and had 17 points. Molly Hays had 14 and Kennedi Niemann had 12 so that was a formidable 1-2-3 punch.

In the 4A semi-finals, Cody posted a big win over Sheridan 54-33 with Niemann tossing in 19 on an astounding 8-9 from the field. Isabella Radokovich chipped in 9 and the Fillies had a big rebounding edge in the game.

So on to the 4A final where Cheyenne East was their opponent and this was a tough game from the Fillies' point of view. Cody lost this one 52-37 as they shot just 22% from the floor in the first half. Schutzman finished with 13 and Molly Hays had a dozen. Cody finished the season with a record of 18-6.

This team had a couple of all-state players in Molly Hays and Kennedi Niemann as they averaged 11 and 8 points respectively. Torrie Schutzman was an all-conference selection as she averaged 8 points a contest. The very good news is that Hays was just a freshman this past season and Niemann was just a sophomore. This year's Cody team had just 2 seniors so they'll be loaded for 2021-22. Take a peek at our short video of this team at the state tournament. Enjoy!
