Last Saturday in Cody, the male winner of the 48th Milward Simpson Award was Cody’s Luke Talich.

He became the second male winner of the outstanding athlete award and part of the first sweep of the honor for Cody High School. Talich joined classmate Kennedi Niemann, who was the female recipient.

Talich was unable to accept the award in person because he had already reported to the University of Notre Dame for summer football workouts and class.

On Monday, WyoPreps caught up with the three-sport star to get his reaction to receiving this honor, reflect on his time at Cody High School, and look forward to Notre Dame.

Talich was all-state in football, basketball, and track during his prep career. He helped the Broncs to a pair of Class 3A football state championships and last month won three individual events at the 4A state track meet in Casper. Talich also helped Cody reach the 4A basketball state tournament for the first time since the Broncs came back into the classification in 2019.

Talich joined Mike Mees, who was the 1978 winner of the Simpson Award, as the only two male recipients from Cody High School.
