The Wind River football team made a remarkable run to the 1A 9-Man state championship game in 2023 and did so thanks to some heroic efforts from Cooper Frederick. As the Cougars quarterback, he ran for 1145 yards with 15 rushing touchdowns plus he threw the ball for 1000 yards and 15 passing touchdowns with just 3 interceptions. Wind River was the #1 rushing team in 1A 9-Man this past season and Frederick rang up a couple of 200+ games on the ground. He had 211 yards rushing vs. Shoshoni and 206 vs. Rocky Mountain

In their state title game loss to Big Piney, Frederick had 25 carries for 137 yards and went 11-21 throwing the ball for 122 yards and a TD. He was also a stud on defense for the Cougars all season with 88 tackles and 5 interceptions. He was named All-State and will take his skills to Black Hills State in South Dakota.

Frederick was an All-State pick in his junior year back in 2022 with 1919 yards rushing and 23 touchdowns as he averaged 191 yards on the ground per game. Frederick was in on 96.5 tackles on defense with 3 interceptions. He was a 9-Man All-State selection as a sophomore as well with 946 yards and a dozen touchdowns. His Wind River teams over the last 3 seasons have gone 22-8.

Frederick also wrestled last season and qualified for the 2A State Tournament at 145 pounds. Black Hills State is a Division II institution that competes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
