The 2024 Wyoming High School Cross Country State Championships return to the Capital City at the Little America Golf Course in Cheyenne. On Saturday, four individual champions are back to defend their title from last year. The other two divisions will have a new champion on the top of the podium.

In Class 2A, six of the top ten finishers in 2023 are in the girls’ field, but no one was in the top three. For the boys, Howard McNiven of Burlington is back to defend his crown from 2023. Seven of last year’s top ten are back to race this year.

In 3A, the girls’ division is full of returners. Worland senior Zena Tapia will seek a repeat performance from 2023 when she won the girls’ division. She is joined by eight others who finished in the top ten a year ago. The boys’ field features only three runners from 2023’s top ten finishers.

The 4A girls’ field is deep. Eight of the top ten finishers from 2023 are in this year’s race. Madison Antonino of Jackson tries to defend her crown. Six of the top ten are back on the boys’ side. Habtamu Wetzel of Star Valley seeks a 3-peat as the 4A champion.

The course records for running at Little America Golf Course were established earlier this season at the Wyoming Invitational on August 30, 2024. Maggie Madsen of Cheyenne East ran 18:52.20 for the girls’ record, and Trajn Swalstad of Worland ran 16:10.60 for the boys’ record.

Here is a look at the start time for this year’s championships in Cheyenne, plus the returning individual and team champions. The race results will be posted in a separate story on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024.
