PhotoFest! Boys State Cross Country
The Boys State Cross Country Meet was held on Saturday at the Cheyenne County Club with pleasant weather conditions. In the 2A Boys race, Howard McNiven of Burlington was the winner in 17.4.40 with his teammate Paul McNiven 2nd in 18.01.20. Jadeth Elder from Thermopolis placed 3rd in 18.01.50 with Burlington's Conner Hoyt 4th and Wright's Dolan Glasser 5th. Howard McNiven placed 3rd at last year's state championships.
Burlington won the 2A team title with 27 points and was the first year that the Huskies competed solo. Previously, they competed as a co-op with Rocky Mountain. Wyoming Indian was 2nd with 47, Thermopolis 3rd with 58, followed by Lovell with 88 and Sundance with 89.
Over in the 3A boys race, Charlie Hulbert of Cody came through with a strong run to place first in 16.10.20. He placed 3rd at last year's state championships. Worland's Trajn Swalstad was 2nd in 16.17.80 with Ben Stewart 3rd in 16.46.40. Bryan Baxter from Evanston was 4th and Diego Lobatos from Lander took 5th.
Evanston won the 3A team title after finishing 2nd last season. The Red Devils finished with 57 points to win their first state title since 2018. Worland was 2nd with 81, Riverton 3rd with 97, Buffalo was 4th with 98, and Cody 5th with 110.
In the 4A Boys Championship, Star Valley's Habtamu Wetzel turned in another all-star performance as he took the tape in 15.48.30. He was the 4A state champion in 2022 and is the defending 4A state champion in the 3200 meters in track & field. Star Valley's Jase Burton was 2nd in 15.58.60 and Laramie Dominic Eberle was 3rd in 16.04.80. Race Morrell of Cheyenne Central was in the 4 spot and Kalel Brubaker of Natrona was 5th.
Star Valley repeated as the 4A team state champion with 24 points, Cheyenne Central 2nd with 74, Laramie 3rd with 98, Kelly Walsh placed 4th with 121 and Natrona was 5th with 144 points.
