Central vs. East for the 4A State Championship…second half…Central wearing the white…Sierra Kuno had her first shot partially blocked…but she was able to nail the second attempt…to give her team a 1-nothing lead.

Less than 30 seconds remain in regulation…Sarah Erickson with the header for East…and it goes off of several players from the opposition and in…we’re tied at 1…nothing highlight worthy happened in overtime, so we’ll skip to the shootout.

Round 1…East went first…Rachel Erickson…the Gatorade Player of the Year…and Kacee Walsh was leaning in the wrong direction….easy score…it’s 1-to-nothing.

Central counters…Erin McIntyre...just a little too quick for Shayne Carter…speed kills and the shootout score is tied up.

Round 2…Elsa Froelicher for the Lady Thunderbirds…Walsh broke in the right direction but the ball squeezes in between her and goal post…the Lady Thunderbirds lead 2-to-1.

Madi Barber would get the call for the defending champs to knot it up again…Carter anticipated it and got the block,,,even 1 save is big, but we’re not done yet.

Round 3…East with a chance to build on their lead…Micayla Ross went high and so did Carter…that got some of the momentum back, but her team is still down by 1.

Now it’s Halee Moore’s turn for the Lady Indians…she sold the approach well and was rewarded…now her team is back in this one, with the score tied at 2.

Round 4…MaKenzie Drake on for East…Carter saw the fake coming on the approach but could not react in time…the score is now 3-to-2.

Central needs this to relieve the pressure…MaKayla McBride…goes one way and the goalie went the other…we’re dead-even at 3, and kicks are getting critical.

Round 5…it’s essentially sudden death now…Sarah Erickson keeps it on the ground and out of reach…the Lady Thunderbirds go back up 4-to-3.

The Lady Indians need this one, or else it’s over…Madison Stumpf…and her foot is faster than the goalie’s hand…tied again…4-4.

Round 6…it’s do-or-die…McKenna Horsley for East…aims high and finds the top shelf…that puts her team back up 5-to-4.

Central’s turn….Larissa Cussins…aims high as well, but she went too high and flat out missed…the Lady Thunderbirds win their first state title since 2002…final score 2-to-1…winning the shootout, 5-to-4. East would finish the season with a record of 14-3-and-3.
