Football Rankings: Week 3, 2014 [POLL]
Two new teams have crashed the latest coaches/media rankings heading into week 3, and the matchups this weekend are big, considering there are 4 games, pitting unbeaten vs. unbeaten.
The 4A ranks are unchanged from last week, and this has the arguably the biggest matchups, as the top 4 all play each other. It's #2 at #1, when unbeaten Natrona visits unbeaten Gillette. The last time these 2 teams hooked up in Campbell County, was last year's semi-finals, and the then undefeated Camels, saw their season come to a stunning end. Elsewhere, #3 Sheridan is at #4 Cheyenne East, in another rematch of last year's semi-finals. The Thunderbirds already have one loss under their belts, and another one would hurt their chances of hosting a semi-final game at new Okie Blanchard Stadium, assuming they make it. Meanwhile, #5 Cheyenne South, travels to Kelly Walsh, to play a fired up Trojan team, coming off of their first win last week.
3A saw one slight change in the latest rankings. Powell is the unanimous #1, while Douglas takes the #2 ranking back from Cody, bumping the Broncs down to #3. Riverton and Jackson hold at #4 and #5. 2 of the 4 unbeaten-vs.-unbeaten games are in this class. The top ranked Panthers have their home opener again the 4th ranked Wolverines, who are looking for a big upset win. The other big game, is 5th ranked Broncs, hosting undefeated Rawlins, in a matchup of the 2 of the biggest surprises, so far this season. As for 3rd ranked Broncs, they play at winless Lander.
2A saw a shakeup as former #2 Thermopolis, was kicked out of the top 5, and have been replaced by the team that beat them...Wheatland. The final unbeaten-unbeaten matchup this weekend, as the #2 Bulldogs playing a big conference game at #4 Newcastle, who stays at the ranking for now. The undefeated Big Piney Punchers have entered the rankings at #5, and should have a good road test this weekend at Greybull. As for the rest of the 2A rankings...Big Horn is still #1 and plays at Glenrock, and Mountain View is still #3 and will play Burns, at Cheyenne South's field.
The big 1A game features the new #5 and undefeated Tongue River Eagles, visiting the former #5 and now unranked Upton-Sundance Patriots, who want their spot back. As for the rest of 1A, #1 Cokeville, who got all but 1 first place vote, is at home vs. Shoshoni, #2 Lusk got the other first place vote, and play at home vs. Moorcroft. Lingle-Ft. Laramie and Southeast switch spots at #3 and #4. The 3rd ranked Doggers host Mitchell, Nebraska, while the 4th ranked Cyclones visit Pine Bluffs.
For 6-man, the Guernsey-Sunrise Vikings are the unanimous kings of the field. They host Midwest. Little Snake River moves up to #2 after their big win last week. The Rattlers will play a Saturday game, at Natrona's Sophomore team. Meeteetse drops one spot to #3, and host Ten Sleep this weekend. #4 Farson-Eden has a tough 2 week stretch to try to prove themselves. First they visit #5 Dubois this week, then host the Longhorns next week. Kaycee is tied with Dubois for the #5 ranking. The Buckaroos dropped 3 spots after being humiliated at home last week. They will look to recover this weekend, as they will be first varsity visiting team, to play at Rock River.
