The four defending state volleyball champs begin the year atop the first WyoPreps Coaches and Media Volleyball Poll for 2021.

There is one unique twist. Class 1A has a three-way tie for first, but one of those teams is the reigning champion, Cokeville.

The Panthers share No. 1 with Kaycee and Southeast, who also won a trophy at the state tournament last year. Cokeville did receive four votes for first place, but it was second and third place votes for the Buckaroos and Cyclones that helped them tie for the top. Hulett and Saratoga are fourth and fifth, respectively.

In 2A, two-time defending champion Sundance ranks first. The Bulldogs earned five of the seven ballots for No. 1. They are just six points ahead of Riverside, who is second in the poll. Big Horn is third, while Moorcroft and Tongue River round out the top five.

The Mountain View Buffalos made a run last fall and captured the 3A crown for the first time in 23 years. They start the new season in the first position. The Lander Tigers are second, and they received one more first-place vote than Mountain View, seven-to-six. The Lyman Eagles start the year at No. 3. They are followed by Buffalo and Worland. Twelve total teams collected at least one vote in Class 3A.

In 4A, the Laramie Plainsmen are one vote shy of being a unanimous choice for the top spot. LHS earned 13 of the 14 ballots for No. 1. Kelly Walsh sits second. Then, it’s Cheyenne East, Thunder Basin, and Natrona County in third, fourth, and fifth.
