Natrona Girls Basketball Team Made Strides in 2020-21
Two years removed from a 1-20 season, the Natrona Fillies were back in business at the 4A state tournament and earned a #1 seed from the West in the process. Natrona had a ton of talent but found out the hard way about the unpredictability of post-season play.
The Fillies were upset by Sheridan in the quarterfinal round 53-51 as they were outscored by 6 in the final stanza. Alesha Lane led the offensive attack with 15 while Tamryn Blom had 14 and Brooklyn Hytrek added 12. Three-point shooting was Natrona's undoing as they went 2-21 from beyond the arc.
The Fillies did play some inspired basketball in the consolation round but were defeated by both teams by Thunder Basin 72-70 in a well-played game. It would have been easy to mail it in after a first-round loss but the Fillies showed a tremendous amount of fortitude. However, it was another rough 4th quarter as they were outscored 21-10. Megan Hagar led NC with 16 while Hytrek and Emma Patik had 15 each. Tamryn Blom and Alesha Lane were in double figures as well with 12 and 10 points respectively.
It was a disappointing end to a fine season but they did have a couple of all-state selections in Patik who averaged 12 points a game and Hytrek who threw in 10 a contest. The Fillies also had a couple of all-conference selections in Hagar and Lane. Out of those 4 players, Hytrek was the only senior so this group should be sharp in 2021-22.
