It wasn't an easy endeavor for the Newcastle boys basketball team this season. Just to qualify for the state tournament, the Dogies had to knock off the #1 seed in the 3A East Regional (Rawlins) in an elimination game. Even though the team did finish 13-12 this year, they had a couple of dynamic players in Cade Ostenson and Dylan Tidyman. Ostenson was the leading scorer in 3A averaging 18 points a game and was an all-state selection. Tidyman made all too and he averaged 16 points a contest. At the state tournament, Newcastle started out with eventual state champion Lander and lost 62-46. Ostenson and Tidyman combined for 31 points but the Dogies shot just 29% from the field in the contest. In the consolation round, Newcastle fell behind by as many as 22 points to Worland and lost 66-57 Ostenson had 21 and went 10-10 from the free-throw line with Tidyman chipping in 16. The Dogies had a large group of seniors including Ostenson bu Tidyman will return as a senior in 2019-20.
