PhotoFest! Gillette/Campbell County Track Meet

The annual Camel Qualifier Track Meet was held on Friday in Gillette with a couple of memorable performances. On the boy's side, Cam Burkett threw the shot-put 64 feet 9 inches which exceeded the existing state record set by Logan Harris of Torrington at 63-8.5. State records can only be broken at the state meet but the measuring tape speaks for itself. You can see the throw on the WyoPreps Facebook page and Instagram account. It was incredible.

On the girl's side, Addie Pendergast of Sheridan ran the 400 meters in 54.56 which was better than the existing record set by Shanelle Porter of Cheyenne East way back in 1990 in 54.78. Once again, state records can only be broken at the state meet but on the other hand, the timing system speaks for itself. Pendergast competed last year at Tongue River but she will be ineligible to compete at this year's state track meet due to WHSAA transfer rules. Pendergast by the way also won the 200-meter dash in 24.44.

In the rest of the boy's results, Texas Tanner of Sheridan threw 163-06 to win the discus, Kellen McCoul of Kelly Walsh went 43-5 to take the triple jump, and Remar Pitter of Campbell County won the long jump at 23-1. Chase Mahler of Rapid City Christian cleared 14 feet to win the pole vault and Trennan Pearson cleared 6-2 to place first in the high jump. In the boy's track events, Natrona's Brett Gifford ran 11.13 to take the tape in the 100, Isaiah Halliburton of Thunder Basin won the 200 in 22.59 with Cameryn Spence of Douglas capturing the 400 in 51.11. Spence also won the 1600 meters in 4.38.50. In the 800, the winner there was Jackson Dutcher of Natrona in 1.59.18 and Wyatt Ostler of Tongue River wan 4.37.81 to take the 1600 meter run. In the hurdles, Chase Ortberg of Kelly Walsh took the 110 in 15.79 and Keltan Ewing from Douglas ran 39.98 to win the 300. In the relays, Cam Burkett of Kelly Walsh who had that monstrous throw in the shot was part of KW's winning 4x100 relay team. Natrona won the 4x400, Tongue River the 4x800, and Thunder Basin the 1600 medley.

In the boy's team standings, Kelly Walsh was first with 117 points, Natrona 2nd with 115, and Douglas 3rd with 93.

On the ladies' side on the track, Rachel Evenson of Kelly Walsh ran 12.76 to win the 100-meter dash. Thunder Basin's Madison Lubben won the 800 in 2.29,27, KW's Finley Klinger took the 1600 in 5.26.22 with Natrona's Ally Wheeler ran 12.09.86 to win the 3200. Over in the hurdle events, Thunder Basin's Gabby Mendoza has been brilliant in the 100 with another win, this time in 15.24. Her teammate Jayden Friedly has been brilliant this season too with a win in the 300 in 46.06. In the relays. Thunder Basin placed first in the 4x100, 4x400, and the 4x800. Tongue River won the 1600 medley.

In the field events, Natrona Alesha Lane swept the throwing events, going 41-10-25 in the shot put and 134-8 in the discus. Madison Bullard of Kelly Walsh had a leap of 18-4.25 to win the long jump and Nyom Moore of Campbell County went 35-7.5 to take the triple jump. Carleigh Reish of Tongue win the high jump at 5 feet even and Breanna Younkin of Campbell County cleared 10-2 to win the pole vault. \

In the girl's team standings, Natrona was first with 149.5, Kelly Walsh 2nd with 122.5, and Thunder Basin 3rd with 117.
