Pine Bluffs Cruises by Shoshoni in 1A 9-Man Football
Pine Bluffs and Shoshoni have been winning programs in 9-Man football for quite some time and they met on the gridiron on Thursday in Fremont County. Pine Bluffs has won 3 State Championships since 2016, the last one in 2022. They were 6-3 a year ago, losing in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs. Shoshoni won a State Championship in 2021 and has made the playoffs in 5 of the last 6 years but went 0-8 last season.
Pine Bluffs had the upper hand in this game as quarterback Cartsen Freeburg tossed a touchdown pass to Justin Lerwick that covered 11 yards to make it 6-0. Shoshoni's Carson Kisling evened the game with a 1-yard plunge so it was 6 all. Later in the 2nd quarter, Freeburg found Lerwick for another touchdown that went for 68 yards so the Hornets led 12-6 at halftime.
Pine Bluffs took the game over in the 2nd half as Ty Scarborough, Freeburg, and Jesus Solis all had rushing touchdowns. Scarborough's went for 15 yards, Freeburg for 35, and Solis from the doorstep. In the final quarter, Scarborough galloped into the end zone from 11 yards out and Solis reeled off a 65-yard run for a score.
The Hornets at 1-0 will be at Guernsey this week and Shoshoni is 1-1 after a 14-6 win over Wright in a week-zero game. The Wranglers will host the Cheyenne East sophomores on Thursday.
