The Rocky Mountain boys basketball team had state championship hopes in 2019-20. The 2A boys division was super competitive and the Grizzlies as #1 seed met Sundance in the opening round of the state tournament. Even though Sundance was a #4 seed, they entered the state tourney with 19 wins.

Rocky ended up losing that quarterfinal game 57-46 and 20 turnovers didn't help. Taylor Winland was sharp for the Grizz with 19 points and 13 rebounds while Jess Wambeke had a dozen.

In the consolation round, Rocky Mountain got back on the winning track with a 64-51 win over Tongue River. Winland dropped in 20 on 8-9 shooting from the field while Tyler Banks had 12. That put the Grizzlies in the 5th place game and they ended the season with a victory, 67-64. Rocky Mountain rallied from 8 points down with Zach Simmons throwing in 20 while Winland and Banks each had 15.

This team had loads of talent as Wambeke and Winland were named all-state with Banks, Simmons, and Brandon Robison named all-conference. All of those guys were juniors in 2019-20 and the sky seems to be the limit for this group in 2020-21.
