Sheridan Girls Basketball Team Enjoyed Strong Run in Postseason
It certainly was a rough regular season for the Sheridan girls basketball team as they entered the 4A East regional as a #3 seed. So it was a win and your in the state tournament or lose and stay home deal, the Broncs beat Campbell County 53-44 to punch their ticket to Casper. Sheridan did end up losing to Thunder Basin and Cheyenne Central in that regional to grab the #4 seed from the East at the state tourney.
In the quarterfinal round of the state tournament, Sheridan pulled a big upset as they defeated the #1 seed from the West, Natrona 53-51. The Broncs outscored the Fillies 19-13 in the 4th quarter and shot a remarkable 48% from the floor in the game. Samantha Spielman went 7-11 from the floor and finished with 15 points. Brook Larson had 15 as well on 4-7 from the floor and Annie Mitzel threw in 13 on 6-11 shooting. Sheridan won that game despite turning the ball over 26 times.
In the 4A semi-final round, the Broncs met Cody and it was a much different shooting performance in this game compared to the previous game. The Broncs were just 6-25 from the floor in the first half and lost 54-33. Mitzel led the way with 9 with Spielman along with Adeline Burgess chipping in 7 apiece
The Broncs wrapped up the season by meeting Green River in the 3rd/4th place game and Sheridan ended the season on the right foot with a 58-46 win. Spielman had a solid game with 14 points on 6-12 from the field with Brook Larson adding 12. Adeline Burgess and Ellie Williams had 10 each. The Broncs were 12-21 in the 2nd half and wrapped up the year at 9-14.
This was Sheridan's first appearance at the state tournament in 5 years and their best finish at state since 2015. Annie Mitzel made the all-conference team averaging 9 points a game and was the only senior on the team. Samantha Spielman averaged 8 points a contest as a sophomore so this program looks to have a big upside in 2021-22. We have a short video to share with you about the Broncs. Enjoy!
