It's no secret that Sheridan's Dane Steel is one of the finest all-around athletes in the state. He recently was named the Wyoming Gatorade Football Player of the Year as the Broncs won the 4A state championship for the 3rd year in a row.

In the winter athletic season, Steel is continuing his excellence in wrestling and took 1st place at 175 pounds at the gigantic Shane Shatto Tournament in Douglas. He improved to 20-0 on the year with a win over Buffalo's Hazen Camino in the title match in Douglas and is the two-time reigning state champion at 152 pounds in 4A.

Last season, Steel defeated Beau Russell of Natrona for the 152-pound state crown  and went 41-4 on the year.  In his sophomore season, he was on top of the podium at that same weight in 4A with a title match victory over Cade Pugh of Cheyenne East. Steel was 42-2 in 2022 and 24-6 in 2001 as a freshman with a 4th place finish at State at 145 pounds.

Steel has won the prestigious Ron Thon Tournament in Riverton and also was an All-American at the National High School Coaches Association tournament in Virginia Beach as he went 6-2 at 152 pounds to take 4th place.

Steel has committed to Montana State for football but wrestling is in his blood, that's for sure. We caught up with him in Douglas to talk about, wrestling, football, and the athletic road ahead.
