Tigers Take Over: Lander Crushes 3A Field for Back-to-Back State Championships [VIDEOS]
The Lander Tiger dominated the 2025 Class 3A girls swimming and diving state championships in Laramie on November 7 and 8. The Tigers won eight of the 12 events and earned their second consecutive 3A crown and 15th in school history. Lander had two swimmers, Katy Anderson and Vayda Havens, win two individual events apiece, and the Tigers swept all three relays. Lander scored 377 team points and won by 177. Kemmerer was runner-up at 200 points, and Buffalo took third with 196 team points.

Anderson defended her titles in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke races. She was named the 3A Athlete of the Year. Anderson touched the wall first in the butterfly at 59.36 seconds. She was the only swimmer who finished under one minute. Katy followed that effort with a win in the backstroke at 58.33 seconds and was the only swimmer under one minute. Anderson also helped Lander win the 200 medley relay by over three seconds with a time of 1:50.29. She also swam a leg on the first-place 400 freestyle relay that won by nearly 12 seconds with a time of 3:40.36.
Havens swept the distance freestyle events for the second straight year. She won the 200 free by nearly eight seconds. Her time was 1:55.84. Vayda was stronger in the 500 free and pulled away for a 22-second victory. She touched the wall at 5:22.32. Haven anchored the 200 free relay that finished first at 1:41.02 and the 400 free relay mentioned earlier.

Kemmerer Had a Pair of Big-Time Performances
Another star of the 3A girls’ state swim meet was Kemmerer freshman Logan Rogers. She swept the sprint freestyle races. Rogers captured the 50 free at 24.52 seconds and won by 0.1 seconds. She followed that with a victory in the 100 free at 54.16 seconds. Logan also helped the Rangers take third in the 200-medley relay and finish second in the 400 free relay.
Those three swimmers, Anderson, Havens, and Rogers, along with Buffalo freshman Milan Monterastelli, shared the 3A Athlete of the Meet award. Monterastelli won the 100-breaststroke race at 1:04.83. She won by almost 4.5 seconds. Milan added a second-place in the 200 IM.
Kemmerer senior Hanna Walker capped her career with a victory on the diving board. Walker pulled away from the field through 11 dives and finished with a score of 410.95 points. That earned Walker an automatic All-American diving honor.
Lander junior Emily Plaisted won the 200 IM race. She defended her title at 2:18.81.
The 3A girls’ state swim meet did not feature any new state records.
Kemmerer coach Amanda Aimone was named the 3A Coach of the Year. Jessie Willoughby from Kemmerer was selected as the 3A Assistant Coach of the Year.
