Rawlins distance runner extraordinaire Sydney Thorvaldson won the girls 5K cross country race over the weekend at the prestigious XC Town USA Meet of Champions in Terre Haute, Indiana. Her time of 16.38.3 broke the course record at the Lavern Gipson National Cross Country Course and was the only runner in a field of 143 to break the 17-minute mark. Thorvaldson is the 4 time 3A state champion in cross country in Wyoming and ran 16.59.6 to win the 2020 state title. She has signed with the University of Arkansas.

On the boys' side, Peter Visser of Star Valley competed in Terre Haute over the weekend and finished a very respectable 7th in the 5K race with a time of 15.24.6. He was just 10 seconds behind the winner in a field of 161 runners. Visser is a 3-time state champion in 3A cross country.
