The fall sports season isn’t quite over, as cross country runners from Wyoming will compete in Oregon and California this weekend.

Rawlins star Sydney Thorvaldson will take part in the Nike Cross Nationals meet in Portland, OR. She will be competing on the Glendoveer Golf Course. The girls’ championship race starts at 11:35 a.m., Pacific Time.

Thorvaldson repeated as the winner at the Nike Cross Nationals Northwest Regional on Nov. 16 in Boise, ID. She set a course and meet record with a time of 16:50.06. According to reports from DyeStat.com, it was the first sub-17 minute 5K run in the state of Idaho.

At the Nike Cross Nationals Finals last year, Thorvaldson finished in 13th place with a time of 17:29.10.

Members of the Star Valley Braves Cross Country and Track and Field Club will compete at the Foot Locker XC West Regional Championships in Walnut, CA on Saturday.

They will be racing on the Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) Foot Locker course. It begins at 7 a.m., Pacific Time. The two Championship Divisions will be at 10:15 a.m., local time, for the girls and 10:55 a.m., local time, for the boys.

Star Valley coach Ty Draney told WyoPreps that most athletes will be competing based upon their class (Sr., Jr., Soph., and Fr.), while two-time Class 3A state champion Peter Visser is running in the Championship Boys division.

The runners from Star Valley are among competitors from Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and U.S. citizens in Overseas Military Installations.

The top 10 individuals will qualify for the Foot Locker National Finals in San Diego, CA on Dec. 14, 2019.
