Upton Repeats as 1A Boys Basketball Champs, Defeating Dubois
Upton was the reigning 1A Boys state champion and the favorite to win this year's title as well. The championship game wasn't an easy endeavor for the Bobcats as a pesky Dubois team have them all they could handle. Upton put a big run together in the 2nd half and the Rams never recovered. The Bobcats win it 58-51 to finish the year 28-1.
Luca Brooks of Upton may in fact be the most dynamic player in the state and has the ability to take games over single-handedly. Brooks had 12 points on Saturday and he was averaging 19 per game. But he commands a lot of attention which gives his teammates some opportunities. Dawson Smith finished with 16 and Nathan Baker had a dozen.
Dubois is a rugged group and they had a gifted player in Cody Wright who poured in 26 points going 10-24 from the field. Max Claar is a talented all-around athlete who had 10 points as the Rams wrap up the year 24-3. After making just one appearance state tournament appearance in a 15-year span, Dubois has now made the big show 2 years in a row.
