The Upton Bobcats beat the Saratoga Panthers, 69-54, for the 2021 Class 1A state basketball championship on Thursday evening in Casper.

This is Upton's first state basketball championship in school history.

Upton started out slow, but eventually, the team was able to stay together and win the game.

At the end of the first quarter, Saratoga held a 13-9 lead over Upton. This momentum did not stay long for the Panthers as the Bobcats found themselves ahead at halftime 26-23.

Upton stuck to its gameplan to shoot the basketball. The Bobcats were able to hit nine three-point shots during the game.

A strong 3rd quarter by the Bobcats was a crucial point in this game. Upton outscored Saratoga 24-12 in the third, and they weren't threatened in the fourth.

The final score of the game was 69-54.

Luca Brooks was the top performer for the Upton Bobcats. Brooks had a double-double with 30 points and 10 rebounds. He added four assists.

Jess Claycomb scored 15 points for Upton and hit three total three-pointers in the win.

Upton led by as much as 18 in the game. The Bobcats shot 41.7% from the field and 39.1% from 3-point range.

The team was also able to grab a total of 38 rebounds in the game and was able to score 13 2nd chance points in the game.

Saratoga was led by Teegan Love who had 21 points, six rebounds, and three assists in the loss.
