USMC Junior National Wrestling Tourney Continues in Fargo
The huge United States Marine Corps Junior National Wrestling Tournament has been moving along in Fargo, North Dakota with close to 7000 grapplers competing. The Wyoming contingent, especially on the boys' side, has found this tournament very challenging.
In the boy's junior freestyle bracket, Liam Fox of Cheyenne East went 6-2 and reached the consolation round of 64. There were over 250 entries in the 150-pound bracket and Fox reeled off 5 wins in a row after an opening-round loss. He's a 3-time 4A State Champion who took the podium at 150 pounds at the 2024 State Tournament and has a 3-year career record of 146-19. Tripp Vigil of Cheyenne Central went 2-2 in the 144-pound bracket, Kemmerer's Roany Profitt who is the defending 2A State Champion at 126 went 1-2 at 132 pounds, Kelly Walsh's Dylan Sorensen went 1-2 at 120 pounds and Kemmerer's Bridger Anderson was 1-2 at 175. Nineteen Wyoming wrestlers went 0-2 in the junior freestyle event.
In the U-16 freestyle tournament, William Alt of Kelly Walsh at 150 and Braxten Crow from Sheridan at 165 went 2-2. Cinch Dalton of Cody went 1-2 at 175 pounds and Green River's Tavin Vendetti went 1-2 at 113 pounds. Sixteen Wyoming grapplers went 0-2 in the U-16 tourney. The Greco-Roman portion of the USMC Nationals will be coming up later this week in Fargo.
