To say that Thunder Basin’s Cena Carlson was surprised might be an understatement.

The sophomore forward was recently honored as the 2021-22 Gatorade Wyoming Girls Soccer Player of the Year.

WyoPreps’ David Settle had an opportunity to visit with Carlson. You can watch the full video interview at the top of this story. Carlson described her reaction and what an honor it is, but she was quick to credit her coaches and teammates. She talked about the amazing season the Bolts had this spring and more.

Carlson scored 24 goals and dished out ten assists. She helped Thunder Basin to an 18-0 record and the Class 4A state championship with a 2-0 victory over Rock Springs in the title match. Carlson is already a two-time all-state and all-conference selection, and she’s not done yet. Carlson has two more prep seasons to play in Wyoming.
