
PhotoFest! Pine Bluffs Sweeps Burns in 2A/3A Basketball Match-Up
In a battle of two basketball squads from the southeast part of the state, 2A Pine Bluffs tangled with 3A Burns at a neutral-site doubleheader at LCCC in Cheyenne on Thursday night. The girl's game was very competitive with Pine Bluffs surviving Burns 45-43. The Hornets had a 5-point lead at halftime and had to hang on for the win to get to 13-5 on the year. Jessica Hoffman who has been averaging 14 points a game for the Hornets threw in 18.
Burns was led in scoring by Josie Barrett with 21 and she has been throwing in 13 points per game. The Broncs finished the weekend with a 58-42 loss to Newcastle so they're 2-17 on the season.
In the boy's game on Thursday, Pine Bluffs raced out to an 8-point lead early on and coasted in for a 68-46 victory. The Hornets have a 1-2 punch in Carsten Freeburg and Justin Lerwick who are among the top 10 scorers in the 2A East conference. Freeburg tossed in 22 points on Thursday and Lerwick had 17.
Pine Bluffs is now 10-7 on the year and Burns is 4-14 after a 56-50 win over Newcastle to complete the weekend's action. Shaw Martin has been leading the team in scoring, averaging 11 points a game with Duggan Kriz throwing in 10 per contest.
