
PhotoFest! Lovell Splits with Powell in 3A West Basketball
The Lovell boys basketball team has enjoyed a fantastic season to date and won their first 14 games of the year. The Bulldogs are ranked #1 in our 3A poll, and their lone loss came over the weekend at the #1 ranked team in 2A, Thermopolis 66-64 in overtime. Back on Thursday, Lovell posted a big win over Powell on the road 70-33, taking the game over in the first half and never looking back.
The Bulldogs have a balanced line-up and lead 3A in scoring, shooting, and defense. They are led in scoring by Owen Walker, averaging 15 points a game, and Matthew Newman, throwing in a dozen per contest. Powell finished the weekend with a 52-40 win over Buffalo to get to 10-5 on the year. Alex Jordan has been the Panther's leading scorer this season with 13 points a game.
The Powell girl's team went 2-0 last week with a 49-36 win over Lovell and a 51-50 victory over Buffalo to improve to 11-4 on the season. The Panthers held a 10-point lead at the intermission, and they were led in scoring by Emery Hernandez with 13, and Coy Erickson had 12. Those two players are averaging 12 and 10 points respectively.
Lovell beat Thermopolis to complete the weekend's action 52-50 to the Bulldogs are 9-6 overall. Kennadee Owens has been throwing 8 points per game and Libby Mickelson has been averaging 7.
