In a basketball showdown between a couple of schools from the 1A Southeast Conference, Lusk played host to Southeast on Saturday in a pair of compelling games. The Lusk boys team was the runner-up at last year's 1A State Tournament and is 17-2  this season with wins over the weekend over Guernsey and Southeast. The home-standing Tigers held on to beat the visiting Cyclones on Saturday 49-43. Lusk, it would seem has a lot of interchangeable parts with balanced scoring. Corbin Matthews has been averaging 9 points a game, Brady Swisher and Jackson Smith throw in 8 per game and Raynce Brott averages 7.

The Southeast boys sport a record of 12-9 this season and went 0-2 for the weekend with a loss to Pine Bluffs on Friday. The Cyclones have a pair of double-digit scorers in Ayden Desmond and TJ Moats who average 15 and 10 points per game respectively.

The Lusk girls basketball team has displayed marked improvement from a year ago and 15-5 this season after going 6-17 in the 2023-24 campaign. The Tigers took care of defending 1A State Champion Southeast on Saturday 32-29 and posted a big win over Guernsey on Friday. Lusk gets contributions from just about everybody with Gracie ZumBrunnen averaging 10 points a game with Paige Potter throwing in 7.

Southeast is currently 12-9 and was 0-2 for the weekend, including a 44-37 loss to Pine Bluffs. Kaycee Kosmicki has been pacing the Cyclones, averaging 9 points a game with Brooklyn Leithead throwing in 6 per contest.
