Wyoming High School Boys and Girls Soccer Final Rankings 2019
The time has come again, where the coaches/media rankings matter very little, and next weekend, teams will decide which really is #1.
For the 6th straight week, Thunder Basin is the unanimous #1 ranked team in 4A. The Bolts have a first round bye at the East Regional Tournament. #2 Cheyenne Central and #5 Cheyenne East have to play their way in. As for the West, #3 Kelly Walsh is already Jackson-bound, and don't have to play until Friday. #4 Star Valley has to play Evanston for a third time, to earn their way into the state tournament.
The undefeated defending state champs in 3A boys have looked like the odds on favorite to repeat. Worland has been the unanimous #1 team in every poll this season. The Warriors have already secured the West #1 seed for the state tournament. Powell is back up to #2, and can secure the West #2 seed, if they win both of their games this week. Then there's a battle in the East between #3 Torrington, #4 Buffalo and #5 Rawlins, who are still jockeying for the top 3 seeds in the East. The game of note is on Friday, when the Bison visit the Outlaws.
In 4A Girls, the 2 #1 seeds are the top 2 ranked teams at the end of the regular season. Defending state champ Cheyenne Central, maintains the #1 ranking, while Rock Springs moves up to #2. The Tigers ran the table in the 4A West, giving up 2 goals in the process...both vs. #5 Kelly Walsh. #3 Thunder Basin and #4 Cheyenne East are sandwiched in between the 2 west teams, with the Lady Bolts edging the Lady Thunderbirds by 1 vote, but East has an argument to be ranked higher. They are the #2 seed at the East Regional tournament, and have beaten TB twice.
The top 2 teams in Girls 3A, have been consistent for the past month. #1 Cody can wrap up the West #1 seed for the state tournament with a win at #4 Riverton on Thursday. #2 Buffalo has already locked up the East #1 seed. #3 Douglas has the inside track on #5 Rawlins for the East #2 seed.
