With all teams back in action, the coaches/media can resume ranking teams on a weekly basis, throughout the regular season.

It's close on top of 4A for the top 3 teams. Kelly Walsh retains the #1 spot, but not by much. Gillette is not far behind at #2, despite not playing last week, and Cheyenne East is not far behind the Camels at #3. The Thunderbirds made the most of their home games last weekend. Cheyenne South drops 1 spot to #4, and Rock Springs is in at #5, despite having all of their games get snowed out last week. RS is scheduled to visit the Bison this weekend, and have a lot of rust to get rid of, because 3 full weeks have passed since they played their last game. Defending champ and former #2 Cheyenne Central, dropped out of the rankings by one vote behind RS.

It's pretty clear which teams are #1, #2 and #3 in Class 3A. Once again, Riverton and Douglas are the unanimous #1 and #2, while Torrington has a pretty good hold on #3. The TrailBlazers need a big game to prove themselves, and a Saturday game at Riverton is what lies ahead. Speaking of proving themselves, #4 Rawlins hopes to do the same on Friday at home vs. Douglas. Cody drops one spot to #5.

Like 4A, there's a big gap between the top 3 ranked teams, and the rest of the field. Defending champ Pine Bluffs is still the unanimous #1, and took care of business last weekend. #2 Wind River did as well, winning the Big Horn Basin Shootout. The Cougars need to beware of Friday's game at unranked Shoshoni. It's not one to be taken lightly. Big Horn has a good grasp on the #3 spot, and they play 2 ranked opponents this weekend...#5 Rocky Mountain and a big rematch at #4 Greybull. The Buffalos were perhaps the most impressive team last weekend, before running out of gas in the Big Horn Basin Shootout. R.M. also has a big weekend because they host Wyoming Indian on Saturday. The Chiefs are just 1 vote behind the Grizzlies.

The only thing that didn't change with the new year, is the 1A rankings. They are the same as they were at the end of 2016. Kaycee is the unanimous #1, followed by Lingle-Ft. Laramie, Cokeville, Burlington and Encampment. Burlington's record may not look that impressive, but they have a great opportunity to right this ship this weekend, when the top ranked Buckaroos visit. Encampment and Cokeville will also clash this weekend, to start conference play.
