Cody football player Grady McCarten has decided to join the Northern State University program in  Aberdeen, South Dakota. In his senior year, he rushed for 590 yards and 9 touchdowns with 2 receiving touchdowns. McCartern rang up 88 yards rushing and a touchdown in the 3A State Championship game vs. Star Valley and was named 3A All-State as a running back. On defense, he was in on 37 tackles, including 10 for loss.

McCartern had a monster season at the running back spot in his junior year with 1199 yards rushing with 16 touchdowns and a pair of receiving TDs. He was named 3A's Offensive Player of the Year, an All-State selection at RB. He was limited to 7 yards rushing in the 2023 State Championship game vs. Star Valley due to an injury. On defense in his junior season, McCarten had 47 tackles from his linebacker spot, 9 for loss.

McCartern is enjoying a great season in 3A basketball in the 2024-25 campaign averaging 17 points a game for the Broncs with a 31-point effort vs. Powell and a 29-point game vs. Douglas.

Northern State is a Division II institution that competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
