The last coaches/media rankings of 2016 could lead to some interesting matchups once 2017 gets underway.

There's been a change at the top of the 4A rankings. Gillette takes over after a 3-1 performance in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Lady Camels will continue play next week, hosting the Energy Classic, vs. a number of out of state teams. Cheyenne East drops to #2, but to their defense, their only loss last week, was against the top ranked team out of Colorado. Undefeateds Rock Springs and Laramie hold at #3 and #4. The Lady Plainsmen will get a few games in during the break, while the Lady Tigers have a challenge after the break. Their first game is at East. After #4, there's a pretty big gap to get to #5. Natrona and Cheyenne Central tie for that spot, and will play each other in early January.

The top 2 are unchanged in 3A. Undefeated Douglas is #1, and Star Valley is still #2. The Lady Braves will host their own tournament next week, to avoid any holiday rust from setting in. Worland and Powell each move up one spot in the rankings to #3 and #4 and are preparing for a tournament in early January. Lyman crack the rankings at #5. Rawlins dropped out after being ranked #3 last week. They lost twice last week vs. 4A opponents, but they'll get a chance to right the ship after the break, when they host SV.

The new 2A Rankings saw little change from the old. Pine Bluffs is still the unanimous #1, while Wyoming Indian and Big Horn stay at #2 and #3. The Lady Chiefs and Lady Rams were supposed to play each other last week, but the snow and cold cancelled those plans. BH will compete against PB in early 2017. Southeast and Sundance share the #4 spot. The Lady Cyclones will be hosting a number of 2A teams after the holidays.

1A got shuffled up from last week. The same teams are in the top 5, but in a different order. St. Stephens is back on top, while Little Snake River stays at #2. Lingle-Ft. Laramie is up to #3, while former #1 Encampment drops to #4 after losing twice last week. Farson-Eden rounds out the top 5.

Disclaimer: The rankings have no official say on post-season positioning, and are only to be used as a measuring stick on the regular season. Please don't read too much into the rankings.

The next rankings won’t come out until January 12th, 2017, because not many teams are playing during the holiday break.
