Kemmerer Wrestler Laynee Walker Aims for the Top of the Podium
Kemmerer super-athlete Laynee Walker has high hopes for the wrestling season in 2025 and so far this season, she is 23-0. Walker won the 115-pound championship at last week's Lander Invitational and beat a defending state champion in that title match in Kaylea Mortensen from Pinedale.
At the Girls 2024 State Tournament, Walker placed 2nd at 120 pounds losing to Tai McBride of Jackson in the championship match to finish the year 32-6. Walker recorded 3 pins in that State Tournament. As a sophomore, she placed 3rd at 125 going 39-8 for the year.
Walker is a supremely gifted athlete who excels in track and field. She is the 2 time defending 2A State Champion in the 100-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles, and the pole vault. That is a remarkable accomplishment and she still has her senior season to go. She also ran on Kemmerer's 2A State Champion 4x100 relay team in 2024 and 2023.
We chatted with her in Lander over the weekend about her season to date and her athletic career overall.
