Star Valley junior Peter Visser is the defending Class 3A State Champion in cross country and favored to repeat in 2019.

This season Visser has already surpassed his time from last year’s state meet, which was 15:56.21. He’s had wins at the Cardinal Classic in Idaho and the Wyoming State Preview meet in Afton. He also placed 10th at the opening Weber State XC Invitational in Utah at the start of the season.

Now, Visser is coming off a runner-up performance in the Elite Division of the Bob Firman Invitational in Idaho last weekend.

In the audio-video above, WyoPreps’ David Settle had a chance to visit by phone with Visser and his coach Ty Draney from Star Valley High School. The conversation begins with Coach Draney discussing Visser’s start to this season and moving forward, plus how the Braves look team-wise. The second half of the conversation is with Mr. Visser on what he’s accomplished so far and what his outlook is for the rest of this season.

Visser has the best times in Wyoming according to Milesplit of 15:12.70 in a 5K race and 15:45.10 in a 3-mile race.

Star Valley is ranked second Class 3A boys behind Lander according to Wyoming Milesplit. The Braves came in second at last year’s state meet to Jackson, which is now in Class 4A for 2019.
