Thunder Basin is back in the title game after defeating Cheyenne East, 9-7 in 8 innings, on Friday at the state softball tournament in Gillette.

The Thunderbirds jumped out to an early lead off Aleah Brooks' 3-run home run in the first inning. Thunder Basin tied it up at 4-4 with a pair of RBI doubles in the sixth inning. No one scored in the seventh, so the game went to extra innings. The Bolts scored 5 runs in the top of the eighth on Ella Partlow's 3-run home run, Addie Rouse's RBI double, and then Rouse scored on an error to make it 9-4. The T-Birds mounted a come-back by scoring on Brooks' RBI double, a ground-out, and an RBI single by McKenzie Millar, but the rally fell short.

The defending champion Bolts make it back into the championship game. Thunder Basin will play the winner of Cheyenne East and Campbell County at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
