The final day of the 2020 Wyoming High School State Championship Volleyball tournament is Saturday in Casper, as Class 4A teams will be in action.

With COVID protocols in place, all four classes will be held over four different days. This means teams will play all their state tournament matches within one day instead of spread over three days.

Kelly Walsh enters as the three-time defending state champions and one of three schools in the 4A field that has won nine state titles in volleyball. The other two are Cheyenne East and Star Valley.

The Trojans will open up against Evanston. The Red Devils are back in the state tournament field after a 1-year absence.

Six of the eight teams in this year’s field were part of the 4A state bracket last year. There is one rematch from last year’s first-round, and it will have Laramie taking on Star Valley. The Lady Plainsmen swept the Braves in 2019.

The only two teams to play in the regular season were Cheyenne East and Rock Springs at a 1-day tournament in Cheyenne. The Tigers beat the T-Birds 2-0: 25-21 and 25-22.

Thunder Basin is seeded the same at No. 3 from the East Conference as a year ago.

Here’s a breakdown of the teams by matchup:

Rock Springs = 18-4 overall record; 0 state titles in school history

East = 12-7 overall record; 9 state championships in school history (most recent in 2016)

Kelly Walsh = 16-6 overall record; 9 championships in school history (defending champs; won the last 3)

Evanston = 15-9-1 overall record; 0 volleyball titles in school history

Natrona County = 13-9 overall record; 1 state championship in school history (2013)

Thunder Basin = 17-5 overall record; no state volleyball championships

Laramie = 21-0 overall record; 1 title in school history (1994)

Star Valley = 15-9-1 overall record; 9 championships in school history (most at the 3A/A level; most recent 2016)
