It’s onto regional tournament action for four of Wyoming’s American Legion Baseball teams.

Gillette is hosting the Northwest Regional Tournament for ‘AA’ American Legion baseball teams from Wyoming, Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. The tournament is Aug. 3-7, 2022, at Hladky Stadium.

Single-A state champion Cody and runner-up Casper (Drillers) are off to Vernal, UT for the Northwest Class ‘A’ Regional Tournament (NWCART). This tournament will be Aug. 5-9, 2022, at Uintah High School.

Both tournaments feature an eight-team field, in a modified, double-elimination bracket.

Wednesday, Aug. 3:

Final Score = Game 1: Idaho Falls (ID) Bandits 4 Fort Collins, CO (Rocky Mountain Lobos) 3 (8 inns.)

Final Score = Game 2: Medford (OR) Mustangs 9 Yakima (OS), WA 7

Final Score = Game 3: Cheyenne Sixers 10 Eagle River, AK 2 - Sixers scored 6 runs in the 1st inning to take control. Hastings had 2 hits & 2 RBIs for Cheyenne.

Final Score = Game 4: Billings (MT) Royals 5 Gillette Riders 1 - Billings scored 5 runs in the 2nd and held on for the win.

Thursday, Aug. 4:

Final Score = Game 5: Eagle River, AK 3 Fort Collins, CO (Rocky Mtn. Lobos) 2 - Lobos are eliminated

Final Score = Game 6: Yakima (OS), WA 3 Gillette Riders 2 - Gillette is eliminated - a 3-run 5th for Yakima was enough. C. Schilling had a 2-run HR in the 6th for Gillette.

Final Score = Game 7: Idaho Falls (ID) Bandits 3 Cheyenne Sixers 2 - A solo HR in the 5th was the difference for the Bandits. Cheyenne had a 2-0 lead early but couldn't hold it.

Final Score = Game 8: Billings (MT) Royals 5 Medford (OR) Mustangs 3

Friday, Aug. 5:

Final Score = Game 9: Cheyenne Sixers 8 Yakima (OS), WA 2 - Yakima is eliminated - Sixers stay alive thanks to a 5-run 6th inning. Williams had 2 hits & 3 RBIs, while Hastings added 3 hits & 2 RBIs.

Final Score = Game 10: Medford (OR) Mustangs 12 Eagle River, AK 2 - Eagle River is eliminated

Final Score = Game 11: Idaho Falls (ID) Bandits 4 Billings (MT) Royals 3

Saturday, Aug. 6:

(Pairings for these two games will not match previous opponents against each other unless absolutely necessary.)

Final Score = Game 12: Cheyenne Sixers 3 Billings (MT) Royals 2 - Billings, MT is eliminated - Sixers rallied from a 2-0 deficit for the win. Billings scored 2 in the top of the 5th. Cheyenne answered with 3 in the bottom of the 5th and held on. An error and 4 singles in the inning helped produce the runs. McAnelly, Costopoulos, & Romero had the key RBI hits. Haught threw the last 2.2 inns for the win. Billings left runners at 2nd & 3rd in the 7th inning.

Final Score = Game 13: Idaho Falls (ID) Bandits 8 Medford (OR) Mustangs 7 - Medford is eliminated

Sunday, Aug. 7:

Final Score = Game 14: Regional Championship Game: Cheyenne Sixers 9 Idaho Falls (ID) Bandits 4 - Sixers scored 7 runs in the 2nd to take control. Costopoulos hit a pair of 2-run HRs for Cheyenne. Tafoya had 3 hits (2B) & 3 RBIs. The Sixers' win forces a winner-take-all championship game 2.

Final Score = Game 15 (If necessary): Idaho Falls (ID) Bandits 6 Cheyenne Sixers 5 (9 inns.) - Bandits jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Sixers took the lead with 2 in the 5th and were up 5-4. A solo HR by Woods tied it in the bottom of the 7th. Idaho Falls got the GW RBI single from Hall in the 9th inning to win it and 3-peat as Northwest Regional Champions. They head to Shelby, NC for the World Series.

Friday, Aug. 5:

Final Score = Game 1: Rupert, ID (Minico Storm) 8 Cody Cubs 2 - Minico scored at least 1 run in all but 1 inning. Cubs' only runs came on a J. Schroeder 2-run HR. Storm out-hit Cody, 15-5.

Final Score = Game 2: Butte, MT 15 Redmond, OR 10

Final Score = Game 3: Casper (WY) Drillers 8 Ridgeline (Millville, UT) 5 - Casper scored 4 runs in the 6th and 3 in the 7th for the win. Gifford had 3 hits to lead a 13-hit attack.

Final Score = Game 4: Service, AK 7 Vernal, UT 0

Saturday, Aug. 6:

Final Score = Game 5: Ridgeline (Millville, UT) 8 Cody Cubs 5 - Cody is eliminated - Cubs led 3-0 but Wolverines scored the next 7 runs.

Final Score = Game 6: Redmond, OR 6 Vernal, UT 5 - Vernal is eliminated

Final Score = Game 7: Rupert, ID (Minico Storm) 11 Casper Drillers 4 - The Drillers had an early 2-1 lead, but the Storm steadily pulled away. Saxton Smith had 2 hits (2B) & 1 RBI. Gifford hit a solo HR.
