PhotoFest! Southeast Seizes 1A Girls Basketball Championship
For the 3rd straight year, Southeast played Upton for the 1A State Championship with the schools splitting their first two title meetings. The 3rd edition was a close game start to finish in Casper and Southeast pulled it out 45-40. The Cyclones were solid at the free throw line as Kaycee Kosmicki buried 6 of them in the last half-minute. Southeast made more free throws than Upton attempted and the Cyclones got 13 points each from Kosmicki and Sasha Haines. Baylie Booth had 12 with a trio of 3-pointers.
Upton fought hard to the end and overcame a rough 1st half in terms of shooting the basketball. The Bobcats were far more effective in the 2nd half and were led in scoring by 6-1 sophomore Bella Keller with 20 points. Sophie Louderback had 16 points on 6-12 from the field. Upton was the defending state champion and they finished this year at 24-3. Southeast has not missed the State Tournament since 2012 and has not has a losing season in girls' basketball since 2005. The Cyclones went 20-7 this year.
