Some of the top high school golfers in the state compete in Class 3A, and one of them is Worland junior Karsten Simmons.

He has finished either first or second at the Wyoming High School 3A State Championships in his first two years of prep golf. Simmons won the title as a freshman in 2018 by two strokes in Riverton. He fell short by three shots in Afton last year.

Simmons has helped Worland get off to a terrific start during this high school season. The Warriors have won the team title at each event they’ve played in 2020.

WyoPreps’ David Settle recently visited by phone with Simmons and Worland Coach Ben Hofmann. Simmons didn’t play up his career in the high school ranks to this point but did emphasize his desire to help his team win a championship. He spoke about his team, described his game, his passion for it, what he’s working on, and a lot more. Coach Hofmann talked about the focus Karsten has to work on the little things, including the mental side of the game. All of that is part of the audio interview in the video piece at the top of the story.

Worland just won their home invite. Simmons took second place, individually.

The Class 3A State will be on Sept. 18 and 19 at Purple Sage Golf Course in Evanston.
