Worland senior Cole Venable plays with a target on him during every soccer match. It comes with the territory of being a Gatorade Player of the Year.

After not playing in 2020 due to the pandemic, Venable burst onto the scene with an astounding 40 goals and 14 assists as a junior and won the state’s top boys’ soccer honor last June. He was a first-team all-state selection and the Class 3A Underclassman of the Year.

In case you're wondering, as a freshman in 2019, Venable had nine goals and six assists.

WyoPreps’ David Settle had an opportunity recently to sit down for a one-on-one chat with the Worland senior. The discussion focused on the amazing run that Worland is on, how he handles being at the top of an opponent’s scouting report, what he worked on to improve after his amazing junior season, getting a chance to play at the next level, playing for Coach Overcast in Worland, and much more.

Through last weekend’s games, Venable has 27 goals and 11 assists in the 2022 season. He has helped Worland stay unbeaten this year. They just played second-ranked Powell to a 1-1 draw on Monday night in the first of two conference games this season. That was the second time they played this season, as the first match was in the Pinnacle Cup in Worland earlier this season.

Venable has signed to play at Casper College starting in the fall.
