2022 Wyoming High School Boys Swimming and Diving State Championships
The 2022 Wyoming High School Boys’ Swimming and Diving State Championships are Thursday through Saturday in Gillette.
The Campbell County Aquatics Center hosts the Class 3A Championships Thursday and Friday, followed by the Class 4A Championships Friday and Saturday.
CLASS 3A:
Teams Participating = Buffalo, Cody, Douglas, Green River, Kemmerer, Lander, Lyman, Newcastle, Powell, Rawlins, Riverton, Sublette County, Worland
Defending Team Champ = Lander (going for their 26th consecutive championship)
Returning/Defending Event Champs = 200 medley relay – Lander; 200 freestyle – Dylan Huelskamp, Lander; 200 IM – Jonny Kulow, Lander; Diving – Braxton Cordova, Green River; 100 butterfly – Jonny Kulow, Lander; 100 freestyle – Brennen Blackburn, Lander; 500 freestyle – Brayden Brown, Lander; 200 free relay – Lander; 100 backstroke – Nolan McFadden, Lander; 100 breaststroke – Nate Johnston, Powell; 400 free relay – Lander.
Schedule = Thursday: Diving Prelims & Semis, 1:30 p.m.; Swim Prelims, approx. 3:15 p.m.; Friday: Finals, 10 a.m.
Lander's Jonny Kulow set a new 3A state record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.07 seconds and a new 3A state record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 44.54 seconds.
Lander sets a 3A state record in the 400 freestyle relay at 3:05.88, which is an automatic All-American time.
Lander won their 26th straight championship with 388 points and by a margin of 177 points. The Tigers won 9 of the 12 events. Jonny Kulow broke his own 3A state record in the 100-freestyle in 44.15 seconds.
CLASS 4A:
Teams Participating = Campbell County, Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East, Cheyenne South, Evanston, Kelly Walsh, Laramie, Natrona County, Rock Springs, Sheridan, Thunder Basin
Defending Team Champ = Laramie (seeking a 5th straight title)
Returning/Defending Event Champs = 200 medley relay – Cheyenne South; 200 IM – Ethan Merrill, Cheyenne Central; Diving – Dylan Bressler, Laramie; 100 butterfly – Mace Spiker-Miller, Laramie; 200 free relay – Kelly Walsh; 100 breaststroke – Ethan Merrill, Cheyenne Central; 400 free relay – Kelly Walsh.
Schedule = Friday: Diving Prelims & Semis, 3:30 p.m.; Swim Prelims, approx. 5:30 p.m.; Saturday: Finals, 10 a.m.
Cheyenne Central had the top qualifying time in six events. Laramie had the best time or score in four events.
Laramie wins their 5th straight Class 4A championship. The Plainsmen scored 295 points and won by 56 points. Laramie won four events. Dylan Bressler defended his title in diving, and Mace Spiker-Miller won his 3rd straight 100-butterfly.
Cheyenne Central's Matt Pietsch and Ethan Merrill won 2 events each. Pietsch won the 200-free and 100-backstroke. Merrill won the 200 IM and 100-breaststroke.
