2A Defending Champion Lyman Edges Wheatland in Semi-Finals
The Lyman Eagles won a state title in 2A a year ago with a narrow win over Torrington on a very blustery day. This year, Lyman is 11-0 after punching their ticket to the state championship game on Saturday in Laramie with a 38-28 win over Wheatland in the 2A semi-finals.
In the first quarter, wheatland opened the scoring with Ryland Petriski getting into the end zone from four yards out but Lyman responded with Ashton Housekeeper scoring on a 7-yard run and he was just a monster in this contest.
It was an eventful 2nd quarter as Wheatland got touchdowns from Hyannie Fausto on a 65-yard run and Petroski scored again from 4 yards out. Meanwhile, Housekeeper kept Lyman in the game with 2 more touchdowns, a 61-yard run, and a 20-yard run. The Eagles had a 22-20 lead at halftime.
In the 3rd quarter, Housekeeper scored for the 4th time from 22 yards out and with the successful two-point try, the Eagles led 30-22. Wheatland produced a 4th quarter touchdown thanks to a 55-yard scoring strike from Kade Preuit to Rodee Brow but Lyman responded again with Housekeeper ringing up his 5th TD run of the game.
Lyman wins it 38-28 as Housekeeper ran for 215 yards. Wheatland had nearly 500 yards of offense in the game and Preuit threw for 323. The Bulldogs season comes to an end with a record of 8-3. Lyman will play Lovell for the 2A title on Saturday at 10 am at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie.
We have some stellar photos from Tony Montoya from this semi-final game on Friday so take a look at those. Enjoy!
