Lafe Files and Lovell Baseball: WyoPreps Athlete of the Week 7-11-24 [VIDEO]
The Lovell Mustangs rallied from a slow start and won the Bolln Memorial Baseball Tournament in Douglas last week behind the performance of Lafe Files and others. The Mustangs are our Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors. That honor is for July 1 through July 7, 2024.
Files was Lovell’s leading hitter at the tournament last weekend. He batted .455 over the four games. Files had five hits, which included one triple. He drove in four runs, drew two walks, and stole three bases. On the mound, Files was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA. He threw 5.1 innings versus the host Douglas Cats and allowed zero runs on four hits. Files issued one walk and struck out eight.
Lovell lost their opening game in pool play to Evanston, 6-1. The Mustangs bounced back with a 2-1 victory over Wheatland, which got them into the semifinals. Lovell defeated Douglas 9-0 behind Files’ pitching performance. Lafe had a triple and 3 RBIs at the plate. They beat Torrington in the championship game, 7-3. Trailing 3-2, the Mustangs scored five runs in the sixth inning and pulled out the victory. Files had two hits and drove in one run.
WyoPreps visited with Lafe Files on Wednesday evening. Lafe felt they had a good, overall weekend. Files said he also started slowly but improved as the weekend went along. He explained how Lovell’s season has gone, his play, and more.
