WYOPREPS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK WINNERS 7-24-24
Girls Winner
Thompson was the Reserve All-Around champion cowgirl at the NHSFR. She scored 1,125 points across four events, and two of her horses won awards last week in Rock Springs. Thompson took second in the breakaway roping and goat tying. She also helped the Team Wyoming girls to a fourth-place finish in the team standings. Thompson won the finals in breakaway roping at a time of 2.28 seconds. That gave Hadley the runner-up spot with an aggregate time of 8.25 seconds. In goat tying, she was second in the finals with a run of 7.15 seconds. Thompson’s aggregate on three was 22.05 seconds, which placed her in the runner-up spot. Her two horses in the events, Lena and Salty, were named the AQHA Girls Horse of the Year for goat tying and breakaway roping. They finished seventh and tenth in the overall AQHA Girls Horse of the Year standings.
Thompson visited with WyoPreps after the NHSFR wrapped up. She discussed the all-around, her events, her two winning horses, and helping Wyoming finish high in the team race.

Boys Winner
Cade Queen was one of the leaders who helped the Powell Pioneers to a 3-0 record and the Single-A West District tournament title last weekend. Queen had a batting average of .545. He had six hits, which included five home runs, and a team-best 14 RBIs. Queen also had a double, scored seven runs, walked twice, and struck out only once. His slugging percentage was 2.000 and his on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) was 2.615. On the mound, Queen pitched in two games but didn’t have to do much. He tossed 1.1 innings and had a 0.00 ERA. Queen allowed zero runs on zero hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Powell beat Rawlins 25-0, Evanston 13-3, and Cody 5-0 to win the district championship and earn the top seed from the West Conference at the A State Tournament.
WyoPreps spoke with Cade after his big weekend. He reflected on the tourney title and how important that was to the team, his offensive performance, his limited work as a pitcher, trying to carry the momentum into the state tournament, and more.
Congratulations to Hadley and Cade on receiving our weekly honor!
