WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Honors Go To Jirak & Schroeder

An outstanding track athlete and baseball player received the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors. The selections were Star Valley’s Valerie Jirk and Cody’s Trey Schroeder. Those three received the honors for their performances from June 24 through June 30, 2024.

Girls Winner

Jirak won the heptathlon at the Nike Outdoor Nationals track meet in Eugene, OR, last month. Jirak set a personal record with 5,201 total points. She won three of the seven events. Jirak started with a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.74 seconds. That was followed by a runner-up in the high jump at 1.65 meters (5-05), and a fifth place in the shot put with a personal record at 9.31 meters (30-06.50). She won the 200 meters at 24.73 seconds and the won the long jump at 5.84 meters (19-02). After she took third place in the javelin at 30.65 meters (100-07), Jirak finished with a victory in the 800 meters at 2:18.49.

WyoPreps visited with Ms. Jirak on Friday morning after she had been unavailable for a couple of weeks. Jirak was very happy with the victory, compared her performance from this year to last year when she took fifth place, went through the events, discussed how her college coaches were very pleased and more.

Boys Winner

Schroeder helped Cody go 6-0 last week. He had a batting average of .429 with nine hits and eight RBIs. Trey’s hits included two doubles and a triple, eight runs scored, and one stolen base. On the mound, Schroeder was 2-0 with a 2.33 ERA. He threw nine innings and allowed three hits on seven hits. Schroeder walked five and struck out 14 hitters. The opponents’ batting average was .233.
